A passage from the Gospel according to St. Luke: "Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first." is really popular. Fr. August gave a full description on this passage in his preach today. First, he reminded us of the peril that is hidden in the act, emptying yourself in meditation. In any religion, emptying yourself or surrendering your soul into the status of nothing or zero is considered to be one of the most dangerous acts, let's say Zen, Taoism, etc. What is dangerous in such that situation for your soul? Your soul that is empty can invite any kind of spirit which is good or bad. Second, he emphasized that your empty soul should be filled with something good. That is the Word, otherwise the Gospel of Jesus, because Jesus is the Word, thus God. With the Word, we can find what kind of spirit is good or not in our soul. Without such that Word, you are easy to surrender your soul to the worse and numerous dirty spirits. How do you fill yourself with the Word? Prays, fastig and almsgiving help you to fill yourself with the Word. His description of this passage is really clear to me.
