I entered my laboratory building yesterday after Gov't had lifted the nationwide state of emergency due to the coronavirus in Tokyo. Somebody next to my office made a sound, and seemed to have a talk online. I had expected that I could devote myself to several tasks to be done within two to three hours. But, everything I had expected was betrayed: everything I did was very time-consuming and not efficient. Why? I asked to myself and found a simple answer: here was no human interactions with others even though I worked physically in my office. It was absolutely unnatural to have nobody around me. That's why virtual communications have made me so frustrated and let me decided to come to office in person. And, staying in office without you is just the same with virtual communications. Alas, everything has changed due to spread of the coronavirus. When can we come back to the normal?
