I found a strange email in my spam folder last week. It was sent by a conference management company, Conference Catalysts LLC, FL, USA. The title of the email said, "paper notification". I always ignore and automatically delete such that spam, but happened to open that email. I was astonished at its content. It was a notice of delay of the review process of an IEEE well-known conference, to which I submitted a paper. I was puzzled; Why does this commercial company have my email address? Only the Program Committee could access to my personal information like my email address. Even before registration, why has the conference management service been involved in the review process? The review process is highly academic procedure. That IEEE conference Program Committee should explain this strange incident to all the contributors. Otherwise, everybody feels untrustworthy against the review process; actually, review comments to my paper look to me that not a small number of undergraduate students and/or master program grads were involved as reviewers in the procedure, obviously.
