I often found homeless people in London and Birmingham, and here in Oxford. Many homeless sit on streets; they look much worse in the situation than those in two large cities. I met an elder man who sat on a step at Oxford Oratory. He talked to me on his situation after I stepped down from the confession with a father. He would like a shower today. He said so.
On the streets, many visitors spend money at brand boutiques and restaurants in this town of academia. Meanwhile, not a small number of young and elderly men and women stay away from warm shelters. I have never encountered such a scene at the University of Chicago that is at least not a site for seeing, but just for research and study. The event this evening has shocked me very much.
